Although Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist avoids controversies, when a magazine revealed his alleged relationship with a British journalist, Jessica Hines, it became the talk of the town. Aamir and Jessica were also said to be the parents of a two-year-old child! The magazine also published a couple of photographs of Aamir and his alleged son. According to the article, Aamir met Hines on the sets of Ghulam. They eventually landed in a live-in relationship. Hines got pregnant and everything changed overnight, stated the article. The happiest moment turned into a nightmare when Aamir reportedly told Hines to abort the child or forego their relationship. Hines refused to oblige and gave birth to Jaan. Presently, she is bringing up their son all by herself in London, concluded the report.

Aamir's brother Faisal Khan reportedly accused him of keeping him captive in his house and forcibly giving him medicines, thus pronouncing him as a mentally ill person. This time, the media hounded not just the Khan brothers, but also his father regarding the same issue. The entire episode became ugly, when the internal family matter became public and was dragged to court for justice. Later, the court gave the custody of Faisal to his father, which later went to Aamir.

In 2002, Aamir Khan and his wife Reena Datta filed a petition for mutual divorce and decided to separate because of "temperamental differences". Aamir and Reena had married each other on April 18, 1986, but they had been living separately since October 2001. According to terms settled between them, Reena was to have the custody of their children. However, Aamir could meet them thrice a week. The two decided to share summer and Christmas vacations equally with their children. If a child spends summer vacation with one parent, he would have the choice to spend Christmas with the other. Though Aamir refused to comment, rumours about the actor's alleged affairs in the past, including a torrid one with Pooja Bhatt, also made headlines. But after the arrival of Kiran Rao in his life, he settled down with his life.

After Aamir Khan commented on Amitabh Bachchan's film Black, the two actors apparently got embroiled in a war of words. Aamir had called the superstar's acting in the film "over-the-top". Big B had also responded to Aamir in a similar vein and said that his performance perhaps went "over-the-top of his (Aamir's) head." Aamir also said that the film showed no sympathy for the handicapped person. Big B iterated saying that Lagaan also showed a handicapped person playing cricket. So, how can Aamir accuse him?

Around the release of Fanaa, a controversy got intensified when Aamir invited the media at Delhi's famous Jantar Mantar, and pledged his support to the rehabilitation of the poor families that were to be displaced because of the construction of Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada river. Aamir's effigies were burnt and the religious fundamentalists made sure that Fanaa was not released in Gujarat. The mere utterance of Aamir Khan earned loads of criticism in the national and international media. Ironically enough, Fanaa turned out to be one of the biggest grossers of that year, despite being banned in Gujarat.

There was an apparent rivalry between Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. It only intensified when Aamir stated in his blog, "Shahrukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for? Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shahrukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shahrukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretaker and his dog! Apparently Shahrukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup, and named him Shahrukh.
