‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’

This movie released in the year 1999 and was helmed by the talented Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It was the first time that Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai starred together. The movie also had Ajay Devgn in the lead playing Aishwarya’s husband (Vanraj) who ironically, tries to bring the two lovers – Nandini and Sameer, back together. It is definitely a must-watch for you and your partner as it captures all facets of love – right from the little angry arguments to heartbreak and separation. It is a perfect visual treat for Valentine's Day.

‘Jab We Met’

The movie was helmed by Imtiaz Ali and starred Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan in the lead roles. This film was certainly one-of-its-kind and is a must-watch for all the die-hard romantics. ‘Socha Na Tha’ is another gem from the trove of Imtiaz Ali directorials. The movie revolves around the twisted characters of Viren (Abhay Deol) and Aditi (Ayesha Takia). Initially, these two rejected each other when their parents try to fix them for marriage and later fall in love when their folks turn against their marriage proposal. It’s a simple movie which showed Imtiaz’s potential of directing great love stories.

The theatrical representation of one of Chetan Bhagat’s bestsellers ‘2 States’ is our next pick for the category. The movie was directed by Abhishek Varma and had Alia Bhatt and Arjun Kapoor as protagonists Krish and Ananya respectively. The movie highlighted on how two individuals from different cultural backgrounds, overcome the odds and marry successfully with the permission of their orthodox parents. The film showcases how Krish and Ananya persuade their parents to affirm their relationship and allow them to marry each other. The film also gives out bitter facts about the marriages in India, such as dowry. It is a simple and sweet film, totally worth watching with your Valentine. Who knows it might also end up giving you the courage to convince your girlfriend’s parents to get you guys hooked for life.

‘Aashiqui 2’

If you are a fan of intense, deep, emotional riveting love stories then this movie is must watch for you. ‘Aashiqui 2’ is a 2013 Indian musical romantic drama film directed by Mohit Suri. The movie starred the debutant Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles and was produced by Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. Set in the early 2010s, ‘Aashiqui 2’ is a tragic love story centering on the turbulent relationship between musicians Rahul and Arohi, a relationship which is affected by Rahul’s issues with alcohol abuse and temperament. The soundtrack from this movie became the love anthem of the year and they are still so fresh! This movie makes you want to clutch your partner and never letting them go and makes you believe in love all over again.

‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’

The character of Maddy played by R.Madhavan is still popular in the youngsters and especially engineering college students. The movie is about a guy named Maddy (Madhavan) who falls in love with a girl Reena (Diya Mirza) who is already engaged and tries to woo her. The twists and turns make it a beautiful love story to watch and music no doubt is one of the strong points of the movie. If you are in love, you are bound to fall head over heels in love with the couple. Maddy and Reena’s sweet, innocent love story is just the perfect visual treat to watch this Valentine’s Day. The ending scene when Reena comes to the airport and then, she gets back with Maddy was love personified, heart-touching and such a victorious moment for the audience.

‘Barfi!’

‘Barfi!’ is a love story of a deaf-mute man and an autistic woman. The story had many emotional moments and showed how love can overlook, what the world calls as abnormalities. Jhilmil (Priyanka Chopra) and Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor) play the unlikely couple in the film. Remember the scene when Ranbir Kapoor tests Priyanka Chopra's commitment towards him. This movie gave a new meaning to love.

‘Vivah’

Sooraj R. Barjatya’s 2006 romantic family drama ‘Vivah’ tells the story of two individuals, and narrates their journey from engagement to marriage. Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Arora portrayed the anxiousness, cute innocence and every bit of emotional potpourri that any couple who are getting into arranged marriage goes through, beautifully on screen. It was also credited for triggering changes to the way marriage is shown in films.

‘Jodha Akbar’

The timing of Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai could not have been better, i.e. 15th February 2008. It was a love story set in the 16th century between the Mughal Emperor who ruled Hindustan (now India), Jalaluddin Mohammad Akbar, and a fiery young Rajput princess, Jodhaa. With romance as the backdrop, and highlighting the Hindu-Muslim marriage of alliance culminating in love and respect for one another, a day after Valentine’s Day was an apt moment for its release. For couples, this is a beautiful rendition of a perfect love story.

‘Maine Pyar Kiya’

Sooraj R Barjatya's musical romantic flick ‘Maine Pyaar Kiya’ expresses the sweet emotion of love. The 1989 Bollywood released film was the highest-grossing Indian movie and the best-selling Hindi film music album of the 1980s. Salman Khan solidified his position in Bollywood as the eternal Prem and his cute romance with Bhagyashree made movie fans remember all the dialogue by heart. Because, “Dosti mein no sorry, no thank you!”
