'Kahaani’, ‘Drishyam’ and ‘Talaash’: Bollywood murder mysteries to binge without blinking

'Kahaani’

Kahaani is centered on Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan), who has come to Kolkata to find her husband. The city of Kolkata adds to the thriller elements of the film, creating layers of tension and suspense. The twists and turns just keep coming to the point that the audience is continually guessing right to the last frame, with hardly any time to victoriously pump their fist in the air as we leave the theater home. The director successfully creates a mystery and embeds emotion and suspense, establishing this film as one of Bollywood's best thrillers, that you cannot help but be drawn into.

‘Drishyam’

In 'Drishyam', Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) attempts to protect his family in the wake of a shocking murder that threatens all of them. The narrative progresses, demonstrating how Vijay gains sharp and nuanced awareness about his family and their lives, and ultimately solves the murder problem by means of pure mild deceit. The film is overflowing with suspense (both physical and moral) that becomes as extraordinary an experience as one is likely to have about how, if pushed hard enough, ordinary people will act in extraordinary ways.

‘Talaash’

'Talaash' effectively merges psychological suspense with murder investigation, which Inspector Surjan (Aamir Khan) adeptly intertwines in uncovering the clues that continually lead him into various unexplained spaces surrounding or enveloped in guilt, grief and redemption. It is a pleasure composed with a mythical component, and will culminate as he thoughtfully narrows in on the clues to lead to supporting climactic aspects. If environments, combinations of mystery or thriller, combined with a depth of darkness you prefer in complexity and risk of mystery and darkness, 'Talaash' is very good!

‘Rahasya’

"Rahasya" is a somewhat flexible rendition of the Aarushi Talwar case, an unpleasant tale of a highly sensational murder inquiry. Detective Abhay (Kay Kay Menon) digs into the truths hiding behind the facades of family, turning it into a redemptive thriller about obsession and suspicion, as well as the ugly side of human relationships.

‘Ittefaq’

"Ittefaq" has two characters who we already know to be suspects, the characters played by Sidharth Malhotra and Sonakshi Sinha, in a double murder investigation. The story unfolds in real-time, without flashbacks and very little exposition. Because of the quick pacing and clever misdirection, the tension builds as viewers remain unsure until the very end shot about who the "real" killer is.
