‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994)

When it released, this comic gem failed to make a mark at the box office. But over the years, the hilarious chemistry between Aamir Khan and Salman Khan, unforgettable one-liners (“Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai!”), and characters like Crime Master Gogo turned it into a timeless cult classic.

2/8

‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (1983)

A satirical masterpiece that was too ahead of its time, this dark comedy about corruption and media hypocrisy flopped initially. Today, it’s regarded as one of the finest Indian comedies ever made, with its legendary Mahabharata scene being a cultural landmark.

3/8

‘Lakshya’ (2004)

Overshadowed by other patriotic films of its era, it underperformed at the box office. But with time, its emotional depth, stunning visuals, and Hrithik Roshan’s performance have made it one of the most respected coming-of-age dramas in Hindi cinema.

4/8

‘Lamhe’ (1991)

Despite its bold theme of love across generations, audiences initially rejected this Yash Chopra film. However, with time, ‘Lamhe’ gained immense respect for its sensitivity, performances by Anil Kapoor and Sridevi, and its ahead-of-its-time storytelling.

5/8

‘Masaan’ (2015)

Though critically acclaimed, it didn’t earn big numbers commercially. Today, it’s hailed as a modern classic — a quiet, poetic story of grief, guilt, and hope, featuring early stellar performances by Vicky Kaushal and Richa Chadha.

6/8

‘Rockstar’ (2011)

Divisive at release, many found its narrative confusing and intense. But over time, Imtiaz Ali’s musical saga found loyal admirers for Ranbir Kapoor’s passionate performance, A.R. Rahman’s haunting music, and its raw portrayal of artistic suffering.

7/8

‘Swades’ (2004)

Despite Shah Rukh Khan’s presence, the film didn’t perform well commercially. However, it’s now seen as one of his most powerful and meaningful roles — a sincere ode to patriotism, simplicity, and social change.

8/8

‘Tamasha’ (2015)

Initially misunderstood for its complex narrative, Imtiaz Ali’s introspective tale about identity and self-expression found appreciation much later. Its dialogues, music, and themes resonate deeply today, especially among young audiences.
