'Dhurandhar' producer compares the film's success to that of 'Sholay's; says, 'There is no greater accolade than this'

'Dhurandhar' enjoyed a long run in theaters and went on to become the highest-grossing Hindi film (released in a single language). Now, fans of the movie are waiting for the release of its part 2 in cinemas. Ahead of the cinema, Jyoti Deshpande, the producer of the film, stated that the second installment will be bigger than the first. She went on to compare the success of the movie to that of 'Sholay'. Let's take a look at what she has to say.In an interview with Fortune India, Jyoti Deshpande, president (media and content business) of the production house backing 'Dhurandhar', shared, "This is not just a maker’s success; it is as much the audience's success. It has been decades since we saw a film that has taken up the imagination of the movie-going public." She further expressed that the audience contributed to the success of the movie by watching it in theaters multiple times and talking about it. Jyoti added that the espionage thriller has been in the theaters for over 60 days. She said, "After 'Sholay', I can't think of a film which has been as successful. There is no greater accolade as filmmakers we can receive than this. It is something that we can’t script; it’s something marketing money can’t buy, something that money can't achieve."In the same interaction, Jyoti Deshpande expressed that if the first part had not worked out in theaters, the second installment would have "sat in our cupboard."She revealed, "We believe 'Dhurandhar 2' would be bigger than the first part. It’s going to be in five languages. The success of Dhurandhar 1 in just one language has been so unprecedented."The producer stated that even South states have contributed a lot to the film's success, despite it being a Hindi movie. She went on to add, "It is the most-watched film in Pakistan too."Directed by Aditya Dhar, 'Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge' will showcase the rise of Hamza in Lyari Town, Pakistan. The movie is set to reveal his backstory as well. Apart from Ranveer Singh, the star cast of the spy action thriller includes Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Danish Pandor, Rakesh Bedi, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun. The movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 19, 2026.
