Eid Mubarak

The eve of Eid is when Charminar’s annual night bazaar comes alive like never before. We took a walk down its colourful lanes one last time this Ramzaan to bring you the sights and sounds

Aao Medam, aao... kurta pehnke jaao...’; ‘Sau ka ek, sau ka ek... le ke jaao, ya ghar jaake pachtaao’ ; ‘Aaha, aaha...kya rang hai, kya look hai... Red, yellow, green. Charminar ke daaman mei aaye ho....’ ; “Dekho, dekho, dekhne ke paise nahi lagte’ — these are just a few gems that you hear, as you jostle for space and hope you won’t get trampled over in the melee around Charminar’s Ramzan special ‘raat bazaar’. The shopping frenzy reaches a crescendo on the eve of Eid, with last-minute shoppers scouting for bargains on everything from crockery to cookware and sherwanis to glass bangles, and sellers shouting over each other to grab your attention.

There’s also the odd stall selling ‘genes paint’ (jeans) and bushart (bush shirts) for ‘fixed price’. But of course, you can haggle. Here’s a dekko at what we spotted as we took a walk down the colourfully crowded lanes of Charminar one last time this Ramzan. Until next year!

Eid Mubarak.
