The Writers Guild Awards’ West Coast ceremony has been cancelled

As reported by Deadline recently, one of the ceremonies for the Writers Guild Awards, which was all set to be held on March 8 in Los Angeles, has been cancelled. The move comes after the ongoing staff union strikes reached a new level. It was originally supposed to be held at the same time as the East Coast ceremony that is still going to be taking place in New York City. The staff union strike happened almost 2 weeks ago, and has still been going on. While it was planned that the schedule would go as is, due to the long-running strike and no stoppage in sight, the event has been cancelled. The guild itself also confirmed in the report that final negotiations have been set to be cleared by Friday this week. However, if they remain unclear, the West Coast event will remain cancelled. An official statement was also released about the same. It read, “We are saddened to share that we have just been informed that, due to the PNWSU (WGAW staff union) strike, the decision has been made to cancel the event on March 8.
We will let you know if any other event arises from this later this year.”

About the West Coast and East Coast entities

Award ceremonies may take place simultaneously; however, both the West Coast organization and the East Coast organization are independent of one another. The staff union strikes in LA do not have any form of effect over the East Coast ceremonies.
