In a year beset by controversy, the biggest party in Hollywood was reduced to little more than a Twitter feed. Jane Campion took home the top prize for Best Director of a Motion Picture and her film 'The Power of the Dog', a dark western based on Thomas Savage’s novel of the same name won Best Motion Picture Drama. Steven Spielberg's 'West Side Story' that was among the frontrunners of the awards show won for 'Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy' and also won Rachel Zegler and Ariana DeBose the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress awards respectively. In the television category, it was a sweep for 'Hacks' as it took home wins for Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress Jean Smart in its first award cycle.
