No Mr Right on your radar? Marry thyself, the Bonnie way
After years of disastrous relationships, content creator Bonnie Locket recently decided to stop searching for Mr Right. The 38-year-old tied the knot with herself on Ibiza’s Cala d’Hort beach, telling The New York Post that it was “one of the best days” of her life. The ceremony included her old $20,000 designer wedding dress, a $27,000 three-carat yellow diamond ring, handwritten vows. The whole wedding celebration reportedly cost Bonnie around $50,000.
The breakups that changed everything
Locket’s journey to self-marriage followed a painful chapter marked by betrayal. Her marriage ended after she discovered her husband had been cheating on her throughout their relationship. A subsequent romance ended the same way. The back-to-back heartbreaks left her struggling. “I thought about killing myself. I didn’t want to be on this planet anymore,” she admitted to The New York Post. With therapy, support from friends, and the companionship of her dog, she slowly rebuilt her confidence and sense of self. “My self-worth and validation always came from whichever man I was dating at the time,” she said. “Now that I’ve learned to do that for myself, I figured the transformation deserved celebrating.”
Happily ever after... with herself
The idea began with a diamond ring she spotted online. “I thought, ‘Why wait for some man to buy it for me? I want it and I want it now,’” she recalled. At a small beach ceremony with eight guests, Locket exchanged vows with her reflection. “Today, I chose myself. Not because I don’t believe in love, but because loving myself must come first,” she said. This however, doesn’t rule out romance as she is “still very open to love”. At the end, she put it best: “I’m not waiting for somebody else to complete me. I was already whole.”
