5 young short filmmakers you need to watch out for

TATHAGATA GHOSH
3rd year student, MCV dept, St. Xavier's College
Cinema is the highest form of commercial art and I feel it is the best way to connect to one and all! As an independent filmmaker, I have dived deep into human emotions and am an ardent fan of Martin Scorcese and Satyajit Ray. I love to experiment with varied themes and subjects through my films. My decision to take up the camera changed my life, along with beautiful inspirational films like Cinema Paradiso, Forrest Gump, Hugo, Pather Panchali and so on. Filmmaking and good cinema was, is and always will be my foremost focus.
Films: The Conflict, Interview, Name Withheld, Jana Aranya Aka, Manush Putul, Dolor and Aashayen
Achievements & awards: All films screened at various film festivals; first five screened at various editions of the Kolkata International Film Festival

TIYASH SEN
3rd year student, MCV, St. Xavier's College
My films have or try to have one thing in common -action, rather than words. It defines me in a way. So, silent films are my specialty. I try to experiment in that area. But frankly speaking, I'm in it for the money. My expectations from my audience are that they should have a pair of eyes and a bit of grey matter in their heads. That's it. My next film is a series of montage shots, depicting the manipulation of time. It's inspired by Hans Zimmer's composition, Time.
Films: Frustration, Ek Aki, Adaptation Concept Dynamization, Blue Bottle and Literea
Achievements & awards: All films screened at various film festivals; bagged the best editor award for Tathagata Ghosh's Jana Aranya Eka at the Calcutta Chronicles Film Festival

DEBOJIT BHOWMIK
Final year student, Electronics & instrumentation, Techno India
My films are about social issues presented in a satirical manner. I have tried my hand in thrillers and I am looking to experiment further in future. I chose filmmaking over engineering because films have the power to turn your thoughts into reality. Only a filmmaker can do it. Nothing else can match it. As for my inspiration, Satyajit Ray made me realize the greatest stories are around us...in the crowd.
Films: Friend Request 1 & 2, Future 'O' Scope, Punorutthan and Mogoj Dholai
Achievements & awards: All films screened at various film festivals; Future 'O' Scope, Punorutthan and Mogoj Dholai screened at various editions of Kolkata International Film Festival; won Best Director award at the BESU Film Festival 2012

ANUBHAV SARKAR
3rd year student, MCV, St. Xavier's College
As a filmmaker, I don't really look up to anyone because I like to create my own style and genre. All those people, in any field, who think like I do and have successfully created their own identities, are inspirations for me. I make films for the audience. Any film that touches the audience is close to my heart. As for my expectations from the audience, well, they can lift me up and also bring me down.
Films: Insomnia, Dos Galletas, Rifles, Blue, Confidential and Bread and Jam
Achievements & awards: All films screened at various film festivals; Confidential screened at the 19th Kolkata International Film Festival

SADEEP BHATTACHARJEE
Independent filmmaker and script-writer, alumnus, Scottish Church College
I work in a team of three, the other two being Subhobroto Roy and Sourav Chatterjee. To us, a short film is one of the most influential and smart medium to reach out to the masses and receive feedback. Nothing could dampen our love for filmmaking, be it tough shooting conditions or adverse weather.
Films: Act Three, The Door, Triangle and Moments of No Where
Achievements & awards: All films screened at various film festivals
