Celebs name one revolutionary figure they want to play onscreen

It’s Republic Day and we all are high on patriotic spirit. The entire nation remembers those bravehearts who had sacrificed their lives to set this country free from British rulers. Cinema often follows life closely and reflects our culture and history. Many filmmakers have tried their luck to pay their tribute to these freedom fighters through their films. On the occasion of Republic Day, five Tollywood celebs talk about the one revolutionary figure they want to play onscreen if given a chance. Read on…

2/6

Rituparna Sengupta – Bina Das

Srijit Mukherji has already announced a biopic on Bengal’s iron lady Bina Das and it will be Rituparna playing the female revolutionary figure. Bina Das was among the braveheart freedom fighters from Bengal who served a significant role in the Indian revolution and is best known for her brave attempt to kill governor Stanly Jackson at a young age. Sadly she died in abject poverty, forgotten by the very homeland.

3/6

Ritwick Chakraborty – Masterda Surya Sen

The life of Masterda Surya Sen has always inspired me. A school teacher Surya Sen still lives in our hearts. His brave story of leading the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid in British India still haunts every Bengali.

4/6

Ankush – Bagha Jatin

I want to play Jatindranath Mukherjee, aka Bagha Jatin, the trailblazing Indian, who had laid down his life during the guerilla warfare against the British rulers. His plans of a mutiny to uproot British rule inspired many others including the mighty Rash Behari Bose.

5/6

Mimi Chakraborty - Matangani Hazra

Many revolutionaries such as Matangani Hazra were left wounded in battle and decided to end their lives for the freedom of the homeland rather than be captured by the British. If I get an opportunity I would love to play Matangani Hazra.

6/6

Anirban Bhattacharya - Khudiram Bose

If given a chance I would like to play India’s revolutionary icon Khudiram Bose onscreen. He was hanged to death at 18 and was one of the youngest martyrs of the Indian Independence Movement. But sadly people now use his name while cracking jokes. So you can understand the sad reality we are living in.
