Bengali celebs share their hilarious bhang moments!

For the enthusiast Indians Holi is simply rang aur bhang! While for many Holi means colours and tasty foods like pakoras, laddoos, kulfis and even sharbats, for some Holi without bhang is as equal as it is without colours. A brew of almonds, pistachios, sugar, milk and cannabis plant are a must to celebrate the festival of colours. On the occasion of Holi, we caught up with the Tolly stars as they share their hilarious bhang moments.

Abir Chatterjee

I quite enjoyed my bhang trip four years back. It made me feel like I was floating. My body felt weightless. I hogged twice the amount I normally eat. And while eating, the chicken pieces seemed to be flying out of my plate and I kept lunging to catch them. So, it was quiet a fun moment. I don’t even remember how many pieces of rosogollas I had! And the rosogollas, they felt like eggs! And I remember, after I went home from the Holi party, I slept for hours!

Sayantika Banerjee

I had bhang when I was in college. I loved the experience as I felt like there was no sorrow left in the world and everything was peaceful and wonderful. I heard from my friends later that I kept on laughing and insisted that the red abir is actually chilli powder and shouldn’t be applied on anyone (laughs). I even tried to collect all the red abir on my dupatta to throw it away as a preventive measure!

Jisshu Sengupta

My mother, who is from Chittaranjan (Asansol), used to make awesome bhang. The first time I had bhang, I was only 10. Afterwards, I had 12 glasses of water. I was immediately put to sleep. My father was against having bhang and playing with colours. In college, my friends and I again consumed bhang made by mom. When we came back home, baba, who was an artist, was drawing a logo. I don’t know why, we took one look at it and couldn’t stop laughing. Baba did not speak to me for a month after that incident.

Raj Chakraborty

After a traumatic experience in 1997, I promised myself never to have bhang again. I still remember, I had four-five glasses on Dol Purnima, as it tasted yummy. That was my first time ever. And after a point, I lost control of my body. I kept on dancing. And every voice around me seemed to be echoing almost inside my eardrums. When my friends decided to take me home, I couldn’t walk. It felt like there was no ground, and if I took a step, I would fall face down. I stood in that position for a few hours.

Rudranil Ghosh

Bhang er neshay sara bochhorer khabar kheye nieachilam, I remember. I kept laughing and eating. Ma had made soyabean curry and I kept on saying that it was mutton curry. And while going to sleep, I insisted that my bed was hanging mid-air and it needed to be brought down. Bhang always makes me forget all my stress and problems.

Srijit Mukherji

In JNU hostels, we used to make bottles and bottles of bhang during Holi and it was so much fun! Once I watched Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey after having bhang and it was a different feeling altogether. I felt as if I was in a spaceship and travelling in space. That apart, I also went on a death-trip, so to say, when I felt that I had died. My friends tried to assure me that I was just under the effect of bhang, but I reasoned with them, with iron-clad logic that, since they were still alive, there was no way they could know that I was dead! Yes, it was a deadly trip!
