From Maths to Geography: Celebs on subjects they failed in school

In the classroom of showbiz and box office numbers, they are the top students. Some even enjoy the status of matinee idols for their larger screen presence and huge popularity among fans. They are successful in life in every way. But did you know our dearest celebs once fell out of favour with the Goddess of Knowledge early in life? These celebs even failed in Geography and Maths and these subjects were like nightmares to them during school days. Read on...

These celebrity childhood pics show barely recognizable stars

Memories of school days

Imagining your favourite celebrities in school, during their growing years, is sometimes difficult. But before all the fame, there was once a time when the stars of today were just struggling to complete their classes like you and I did. Like in any school class, the types of students varied. Were they the class clown or the wallflower type? Were they the infamous ones or the goody two shoes of the class? Did they reign as the popular kid or did they suffer under the wrath of bullies?

Dev

Well, throughout his school days, Dev was allergic to Geography and could never manage that subject. Before every Geography test, he would feign illness in the mornings — fever on some days, stomach ache on others. The dashing actor recalls, "Once, in Class VIII, I got 25 out of 100 in the subject. My class teacher, who happened to teach us geography, was mad at me. While doing map pointing, I remember giving multiple dots for one place. At least one among them would be correct, I used to think. So furious was my teacher once that she asked me to eat up the whole sheet in the hope that it would drive into me some sense of Geography. Years later, I met my teacher again. And she remembered how poor I was in the subject. In fact, she summed up the conversation with, Dev, where is Kashmir located?"

Srabanti Chatterjee

Ma Saraswati never gave Srabanti her blessings when it came to passing in Maths. "Every year on Saraswati Puja, I’d stare at her face and try to gauge if my score was going to range between one and 100. My average score in the subject was never more than 20. Our maths teacher in Class IX was very strict and as usual, I got 15 out of 100. He asked me if I would throw a party as I was consistent in scoring poor marks. She failed in maths from Class VI till Class X. In Madhyamik, however, I managed to score a half-century," the actress said going down memory lane.

Swastika Mukherjee

She's a BA in history, but failed in Maths from Class VII to X. Swastika, in his own admission, was persistent when it came to failing in maths. "From Class VII to Class X, I religiously failed in Maths. I still remember getting 1.5 on the pre-test. My teacher threw the answer script at me and said I should at least try to get the double next time around. When the test results came out, there I was standing in front of her with a score of 3 out of 100! In ICSE, I got 64 out of 100 in maths and my teacher was happier than I was. She screamed, "Swastika, you have got 64!" Never in my life had I got more than 25 before. Maths, to me, was no less difficult than climbing Everest," smiles the actor.

Rudranil Ghosh

With a BSc in biological sciences, Rudranil failed maths when he was in Class VIII. The actor still remembers when he returned home with the score sheet, his school teacher father told him, 'Joghonyo! Porichoy dishna'. "He asked me to become a rickshaw puller. I desperately wanted to ask him about his Class VIII results, but stopped short of it. I couldn't even understand why he wanted to disown me. You mention a subject and a certain image comes to your mind," recalls Rudranil.
