NDA, BJP, UDF lead as counting progresses across four states
Votes are being counted across four state assemblies and the early picture shows sharply contested races in each. In Assam, where 64 seats are needed for a majority in the 126-seat house, NDA has a tally of 97 seats, with 28 declared wins and leads in 69 more, putting it well past the majority mark on current trends. The Congress-led combine is trailing with a tally of 22, all in leads. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 7 in Assam. In Tamil Nadu, the majority mark stands at 118 in a 234-seat assembly. SPA has 7 won seats and leads in 53 more for a tally of 60, while NDA is leading in 55 seats with no wins declared yet, giving it a tally of 55. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 115 in Tamil Nadu, still 3 seats short of the majority mark. West Bengal, with a majority mark of 148 in its 294-seat house, has BJP leading the count with a tally of 179, comprising 11 won seats and leads in 168 constituencies. TMC is trailing with a tally of 106, including 2 declared wins and leads in 104 seats. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 8 in West Bengal. In Kerala, where 71 seats are needed for a majority in the 140-seat assembly, UDF holds a tally of 87 with 68 seats already won and leads in 19 more, crossing the majority mark on current figures. LDF is trailing with 30 wins and leads in 6, giving it a tally of 36. Candidates from other parties and independents cumulatively hold a tally of 17 in Kerala.
