Widespread heavy rains and persistent flooding have forced authorities in Jammu Division and several districts of Delhi-NCR to shut all schools on September 3, affecting students from nursery to Class 12. The closures, announced by multiple district administrations, come amid rising safety concerns due to landslides, flash floods, severe waterlogging, and traffic disruptions.
The decisions reflect growing precautionary measures in the face of extreme weather, with authorities urging schools to conduct online classes wherever possible to ensure continuity of education. Parents and students across Jammu, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Buddh Nagar are being advised to stay indoors, while administrations monitor road and infrastructure conditions and work to restore affected areas.
Jammu division schools shut
The Directorate of School Education Jammu issued a formal order stating:
“To ensure the safety of students and staff, all Government and Private schools across Jammu Division shall remain closed on 03-09-2025.”
The closure follows widespread destruction caused by heavy rains and rain-induced landslides, which have disrupted roads, local infrastructure, and normal school operations.
School closures in Gautam Buddh Nagar
In Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district, all schools—government, aided, CBSE, ICSE, and madrasa board institutions—will remain closed on Wednesday, September 3, in anticipation of heavy rainfall.
While students stay home, all teaching and non-teaching staff have been instructed to report to duty and continue departmental work. The administration emphasized strict compliance with the order to protect student safety amid recent intense downpours.
Ghaziabad schools shut amid flooding
The Ghaziabad district administration declared a holiday for all schools and educational institutions on September 3. District Magistrate Ravindra Mandad, through Basic Shiksha Adhikari O.P. Yadav, cited continuous rainfall, waterlogging, and traffic disruption as the reasons for closure.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings for moderate to heavy rainfall and possible thunderstorms in Ghaziabad, Noida, and Gurugram. While Ghaziabad schools will remain closed, Noida and Gurugram authorities are monitoring conditions, urging parents to check official updates.
Impact on students and parents
The closures affect lakhs of students across Jammu Division and Delhi-NCR, including those preparing for mid-term exams. Parents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and keep children indoors. Schools are expected to reschedule exams and adjust academic calendars to accommodate the disruptions.
Authorities stressed that these preventive measures prioritize student safety as extreme weather continues to strain infrastructure, roads, and public services across the region.
