Varanasi: A 30-year-old man Amaresh Singh was shot at by Thar-borne miscreants on the Mau highway near Karha village under Chiraiyyakot police station in Mau district on Sunday night after a dispute over giving way. In a similar incident, a youth was shot at by car-borne attackers in Varanasi on Saturday night.
Mau’s circle officer (Mohammadabad) Shitla Prasad Pandey said on Monday that an FIR was lodged with Chiraiyyakot police station in Mau district. The condition of Amaresh, a resident of Jameen Harkhori alias Dhanchhula village under Jiyanpur police station in Azamgarh district, is stated to be stable, he said adding that both Amaresh and the assailants, who fled from the spot, had gone to attend a same event in Azamgarh.
. The police suspect the Thar-borne miscreants were trying to overtake Amaresh’s vehicle, and an argument broke out when he allegedly delayed giving way. As the dispute escalated, the attackers reportedly opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the spot. Amaresh sustained multiple bullet injuries in the stomach and thigh and was admitted to a hospital.
In another incident, miscreants allegedly opened fire on Arun Singh and his nephew Pawan Singh of Nuvao on Saturday night following a dispute over giving way. The shooting occurred around 10.30 pm when the two were returning home on a motorcycle from Susuwahi Karmanveer. Arun said a black Creta was following them and began honking repeatedly near the bypass crossing while attempting to overtake.
As Arun and Pawan were about to turn towards their home, the car-borne assailants opened fire at them. Arun ducked, causing the bullet to miss him and hit Pawan in the left hand. The attackers fired another shot before fleeing towards Prayagraj. Hearing the gunfire, nearby residents rushed out, but the assailants had already escaped. Injured Pawan was taken to the BHU Trauma Centre, where he was discharged after initial treatment.
Ramna police outpost in-charge Gaurav Mishra said that police have launched a manhunt for the assailants.
