VMC elected wing members vacate chambers

Vadodara: Office-bearers of the elected wing of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) vacated their chambers on Monday as the five-year term came to an end.With the term expiring, the functionaries will also have to give up their official vehicles and the staff deployed with them.Throughout the day, VMC employees were seen packing documents and other materials from the offices of the mayor, deputy mayor, standing committee chairman and other office-bearers. Officials said the former functionaries could take with them only personal belongings and correspondence related to their tenure.The official vehicles were used one last time by the office-bearers to return home, after which the drivers and security personnel assigned to them were relieved and will now be deployed elsewhere in the civic body.Several women councillors from the BJP were present when mayor Pinky Soni vacated her chamber. She carried with her an idol of Lord Ganesha from her office, while others followed holding framed pictures of deities that had been kept in the chamber.
