Prof D Mavoothu appointed MGU interim VC

Thiruvananthapuram: The governor has appointed Cochin University of Science and Technology (Cusat) management studies professor D Mavoothu as the interim vice-chancellor of M G University. He was appointed following the retirement of C T Aravind Kumar, who was in charge of the VC.

Mavoothu is the dean of management studies at both Kerala University and Cusat. Mavoothu, a native of Tamil Nadu, earned his MBA from Madurai Kamaraj University and his PhD from Cusat. The govt did not provide any special recommendations or panel to the governor for the interim VC appointment. Mavoothu is a member of the teachers’ association affiliated with the BJP.

Since the retirement of Sabu Thomas as VC in May 2023, PVC Aravind Kumar had been handling the responsibilities of VC for the past three years.
