Mayor: BJP’s two-seat win reflects corp’s performance’
T'puram: Mayor V V Rajesh on Tuesday said Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) victory in two assembly segments within the city corporation limits is a clear endorsement of city corporation administration's performance over the past three months. The mayor noted that the election was announced just two months after the current council assumed office, effectively making it an assessment of the administration's initial functioning. Out of the four assembly constituencies within the corporation, candidates of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured victories in two seats. "This shows that the administration is moving in the right direction," he said, attributing the success to a people-friendly budget that provided relief across sections of society. Rajesh said the new council transformed the corporation into a more accessible and people-centric institution. "There was a time when public kept their distance from the corporation office. Since we took oath on Dec 26, we have ensured that citizens can meet officials and elected representatives every working day between 3pm and 5pm," he added. According to him, this initiative helped rebuild public trust within a short span. He also alleged that opposition figures, including former mayors and a minister, attempted to spread misinformation against the administration by misusing govt systems. "People have rejected these allegations and given a fitting reply through the election results," he said, adding that continuous criticism from political rivals did not influence public opinion.Rajesh rejects accountability: The mayor also asserted that the city corporation cannot be held responsible for the ongoing drinking water crisis, shifting the blame to KWA. He questioned how the civic body could be made accountable for transferring water from Neyyar Dam to Aruvikkara Dam, stressing such operations fall solely under the jurisdiction of KWA. He said the corporation has no role in inter-dam water management and urged officials to address the issue without deflecting responsibility.
