Drug peddler held with ganja, MDMA
Kochi: A 43-year-old man was arrested by Nemom police for allegedly possessing and attempting to sell narcotic substances within the police station limits.
The accused, identified as Vijayakumar M, a resident of Nemom, was taken into custody during a joint operation conducted by district anti-narcotic special action force (Dansaf) and Nemom police as part of Operation Toofan.
According to police, Vijayakumar was planning to distribute the drugs in both rural and urban areas. During the operation, officers seized around 500g of ganja and 4.5g of MDMA from his possession. The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by city commissioner K Karthik. Acting on the information, police teams placed the suspect under surveillance and closely monitored his movements and activities before carrying out the arrest.
Police said Vijayakumar is a history-sheeter and has been involved in several criminal cases registered at Nemom police station. Officers believe the seized drugs were intended for distribution through local networks operating in different parts of the city and nearby rural regions.
As part of Operation Toofan, city police have intensified surveillance and inspections targeting drug trafficking networks. Karthik said anti-drug operations would be further strengthened in the coming days and strict action would be taken against those involved in narcotics-related offences. Further legal proceedings against the accused are under way.
