5 held after drunken clash leaves youth injured

T’puram: Vizhinjam police on Wednesday arrested five persons in connection with a violent clash at Adimalathura near Vizhinjam on Tuesday night in which a 23-year-old man sustained serious head injuries.

The arrested were identified as Faisal (35), Shaji (25), Alfin (25), Sanalraj (20) and Johnbritto (27), all of Adimalathura. Police said the accused were involved in an altercation that allegedly broke out among the intoxicated youths on Tuesday night.

According to police, the victim, Agish, of Adimalathura, suffered grievous injuries to his forehead and nose after being attacked with a weapon during the clash. He was rushed to MCH, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

Vizhinjam SHO V D Rejiraj said Faisal is a known history-sheeter and figures in the station’s rowdy list.

The accused were arrested following an investigation conducted by a police team led by SHO Rejiraj. The five were later produced before a court. Police said further investigation is under way.
