At around 1am, a few unidentified people entered the kiosk and cut the cables that were connected to the machine and CCTV cameras.

When they tried to open the locker where money was loaded, a burglary alarm went off and they fled from the spot.

An employee of the bank received an SMS alert about the attempted theft and he immediately informed the steel plant police officials.

Inspector Dhanasekaran and others rushed to the spot and verified the CCTV footage.

“The footage recorded two men entering the premises to loot the ATM money,” the inspector said.

The bank officials confirmed that they had loaded Rs 8 lakh into the machine. They confirmed that the money was safe.

A case was registered in this regards.
