BEd college ran for two years on fake NCTE letter
Rajkot: Making a mockery of regulatory norms, a BEd college at Bhacha village in Una taluka of Gir Somnath district was allegedly found to have operated for two academic years on the basis of a forged letter claiming renewed recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).The scandal surfaced after Rameshchandra Parmar, registrar of Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU), lodged a complaint at Junagadh Taluka police station when verification revealed that the NCTE approval letter submitted by the college was fake.
An FIR was registered under several IPC sections, including 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and forgery-related sections 465, 467, 468, and 471.The complaint named the management of Shrimati Vanitaben Bachubhai Nandola BEd College, which is run by Shri BM Nandola Charitable Trust, along with the then principal and others allegedly involved in submitting the forged verification letter.According to Parmar, the college's recognition was revoked, yet it submitted a fake letter bearing the forged signature of the NCTE regional director, Delhi, to secure permission to admit students to its BEd programme. The forgery was confirmed after BKNMU sent the document directly to the NCTE for verification.Parmar described the act as a "breach of trust" that severely impacted the academic future of students who enrolled during the period in question.Vice-Chancellor Pratapsinh Chauhan clarified that no students were allocated to the college for the 2025–26 academic year. He said the institution was previously affiliated with Saurashtra University before coming under BKNMU's jurisdiction. Its NCTE recognition was cancelled due to the absence of required staff profiles; however, the varsity has no records of how many students passed during the period when the college did not have NCTE accreditation."There is no indication that the college itself is bogus or fake, and no admissions were allocated this year," Chauhan stated.Police inspector F B Gaganiya of Junagadh Taluka police station said authorities are working to determine how many students were admitted and graduated during the two years and to identify those responsible for preparing and submitting the forged NCTE approval letter.Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Holi wishes, messages and quotes !
