Vaibhav Suryavanshi to skip CBSE class X exams to focus on cricket
PATNA: In a decision that underlines his meteoric rise in Indian cricket, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the teenage sensation from Samastipur district, will not appear for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X examinations this year. The gifted batsman has opted out owing to an intense schedule of training sessions, camps and tournaments, along with security concerns at the examination centre.
Although his admit card had been issued and the examination centre formally allotted, Suryavanshi will not appear for the examinations this year, a Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) source said.
The young cricketer’s calendar has been dominated by high-performance camps and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) events, leaving him with little time to prepare for the examinations. Those close to him say his immediate priority is to consolidate his place in competitive cricket and continue delivering match-winning performances.
Rakesh Tiwari, former president of BCA, said, “Around 2000-3000 people gather to see Suryavanshi wherever he goes. He is one of the most favourite cricketers of the country today. We are thinking of alternate arrangements for him so that he could sit his exams later,” Tiwari added.
The CBSE Class X examinations are scheduled from Feb 17 to March 11.
Adarsh Kumar Pintu, director of Modesty School in Tajpur, where Suryavanshi studies, said the cricketer’s examination form had been duly filled and his admit card issued. The board had designated Poddar International School in the city as his examination centre.
He said, “After discussions with Suryavanshi’s father, it emerged that due to his busy schedule, he will not be able to appear in the examination this year. Currently, Suryavanshi is completely focused on cricket and is busy preparing for upcoming tournaments.”
Recently, Suryavanshi delivered a string of commanding performances in the Under-19 World Cup, playing a pivotal role in India lifting the trophy. His ability to anchor innings under pressure while accelerating when required has drawn comparisons with established stars and he is widely described as the future of Indian cricket.
Wherever he travels, crowds gather in thousands for a glimpse of the young batter whose rise has inspired aspiring cricketers across Bihar. For now, the classroom will wait. The pitch, it seems, is calling louder and Suryavanshi is answering with the bat.
