Rural SP in 5 dists to boost policing: ADG
Patna: Bihar Police headquarters on Friday shared key updates related to law and order, policing reforms and cybercrime control in the state.
ADG (police deadquarters) Sunil Kumar said Rural SP posts have been created in five districts — East Champaran, Samastipur, Madhubani, Vaishali and Siwan — to strengthen law and order. The newly appointed rural SPs will share responsibilities with the existing SPs and function independently. Inspectors, sub-inspectors, constables and havildars will work under them.
ADG (law and order) Sudhanshu Kumar said 1,253 accused in 810 cases have been convicted so far this year.
“Out of the total, 453 accused received life imprisonment, while 253 were sentenced to 10 years or more. In rape and Pocso Act-related cases, 267 accused were convicted in 218 cases. Two murder convicts were also awarded death sentences,” he said.
One death penalty case was from Begusarai, where a criminal shot dead a man’s parents and sister in 2019. The second was from Arwal district, where a man killed his wife and dismembered her body in 2024. Police said speedy investigation helped secure convictions in both cases.
IG (Cybercrime and security cell), Ranjit Kumar Mishra urged people to remain cautious amid rising cybercrime cases.
“Daily calls to the cybercell have increased from 5,500 to over 8,100 in the past four months, while around 430 written complaints are being received every day. Bihar Police is running ‘Cyber Prahar 3.0’ to crack down on cybercriminals. More than 5,000 suspicious bank accounts have been frozen so far,” he said.
Mishra added that complaints involving cyberfraud worth Rs199.09 crore have been received in the state, of which Bihar Police has recovered Rs7.6 crore.
“With this, Bihar ranks fourth in the country in recovery of defrauded amounts, reflecting the technical and investigative capabilities of the state police,” he said.
