Barriers near Gr Noida West roundabout force long detours

Noida: Commuters between Rise Chowk and Techzone-4 are being forced onto longer detours after traffic police erected road barriers near the Hanuman temple roundabout in Greater Noida West. What began as a peak-hour measure, residents claim, has effectively become permanent, compelling motorists to U-turn 2-3 km ahead at the Golden-I roundabout.

Manish Kumar, a resident of Ecovillage 1, said the barriers were earlier lifted between 9.30 and 10 am and reinstalled only during evening rush hours. “That has changed. They are now left in place throughout the day,” he said, adding that the detour invariably feeds into fresh jams at the next junction.

In a post on X on Wednesday, he tagged the DCP (traffic) and Noida traffic police and said the barriers were blocking essential routes with no explanation of whether they are permanent. Shiv Choudhary, another Greater Noida West resident, said the barriers should at minimum be removed during non-peak hours.

Hanuman temple roundabout is a pressure point where traffic from Dadri, Ecotech, Techzone, and Delta sectors converges daily. The evening rush hour leads to tailbacks that stretch nearly a kilometre towards Bisrakh.

DCP (traffic) Abhay Kumar Mishra said the barriers were put up as a temporary safety measure at the roundabout prone to accidents. “A traffic light system is being planned for the area. Until then, the barriers are necessary,” he said.
