Mandya MLA slams IPL ticket distribution irregularities
Mandya: Strongly criticising the alleged irregularities in IPL ticket distribution, Mandya MLA Ganiga Ravi lashed out at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), accusing it of turning ticket sales into a ‘form of gambling' while depriving fans of their chance to watch matches in the stadium.Calling for transparency, Ravi demanded that out of the nearly 40,000 seats available at the stadium, at least 20,000 tickets should be sold directly through public counters, and basic amenities, including drinking water, should be provided to all those who come to see the matches.Expressing his happiness that the IPL matches are being hosted in Bengaluru, the MLA said the excitement surrounding the tournament should benefit all sections of society. However, he alleged that tickets meant for the public are being sold in the black market for prices nearly 10 times higher than their original cost. Ravi also raised concerns about the lack of basic amenities at the stadium, stating that spectators often struggle to find even basic facilities such as drinking water during matches. He criticised the authorities for treating the stadium as a money-making venture rather than a venue meant for cricket lovers.Challenging the organisers, Ravi asked them to show even a single ticket counter where common people can easily purchase tickets. "Even if I can afford to pay Rs 50,000 for a ticket, a poor child should not be denied the joy of watching cricket in a stadium," he remarked. The MLA further accused organisers of exploiting the deep passion and obsession fans have for cricket purely for financial gain. Ganiga Ravi also expressed strong support for children who play cricket on the streets and for underprivileged fans. He asserted that cricket belongs to the people and that every aspiring fan deserves a fair chance to experience the thrill of watching the game live from the stands.
