Woman murdered at Mumbai home, husband, prime suspect, on the run

Mumbai: A beautician was murdered and locked up at her residence at Malwani recently. Police found the body a few days after the murder. Her husband, who is missing, is the prime suspect in the murder case.

Selema Khatun, the deceased, hailed from 24 Parganas district in West Bengal and worked at a beauty parlour in Mumbai. She lived at Malwani with her husband, Shamsuddin. Police said the two had frequent fights. For a brief period, the couple had separated. But they got back together, and, soon, their fights resumed.

Sometime in the past week, Selema is believed to have been murdered at her residence. The house was locked from the outside. Residents alerted the police after which the door of the house was broken open and the body was found.

After the body was sent for an autopsy, forensic experts said Selema had been stabbed in the neck with a sharp weapon.

Police suspect her husband murdered her, locked up the house and fled. A case of murder has been registered at the Malwani police station under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. Multiple police teams have been formed to look for the accused and they have fanned across the country.
