Man held from Assam for murder of live-in-partner at Malwani in Maharashtra
Mumbai: A man was arrested from Assam by Malwani police late Sunday in connection with the murder of his live-in partner in Malwani last week. Shamsuddin, the accused, fled the city after committing the crime, police said. While the murder was committed on May 20, it came to light only two days later. Police said Shamsuddin locked the dead body in the house and fled.
The victim, Selema Khatun, was a beautician. She hailed from 24 Parganas district in West Bengal and worked at a beauty parlour in Mumbai. She lived in Malwani with Shamsuddin. Police said the two had frequent fights. For a brief period, the couple separated. But they got back together, and, soon, their fights resumed.
Shamsuddin told the police that he loved Selema but recently found out about her affair with someone. Police were summoned by neighbours on May 22 and broke down the door of the couple's house to find the dead body. The door of the house was locked from outside.
After the body was sent for an autopsy, forensic experts said Selema was stabbed in the neck with a sharp weapon.
A case of murder was registered at the Malwani police station under provisions of Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita. After technical surveillance, police teams under the supervision of DCP Sandip Ghuge and senior inspector Shailendra Nagarkar traced the accused to Assam and apprehended him.
