Azad confined in house for hours before his ‘Satta Parivartan Yatra’
Bijnor: Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad was confined for several hours and there was heavy deployment of police personnel outside his residence in Bijnor before he was allowed to proceed with his ‘Satta Parivartan Yatra’ on Thursday evening.
Azad had announced the statewide campaign in Lucknow on May 30 and was scheduled to launch it from Dhampur. Azad Samaj Party (ASP) alleged that permission for the yatra was initially denied, and heavy police deployment outside Azad’s residence effectively prevented him from starting the march.
Questioning the administration's move, Azad said he was being stopped from reaching people despite seeking permission. “I want to meet people across the state, but the govt is stopping me,” he said.
Addressing supporters at Indiar Bal Bhavan in Bijnor, Azad said political change becomes possible when people unite. Referring to Tamil Nadu, he claimed that public support had brought change there and expressed confidence that Uttar Pradesh would witness a similar transformation.
He alleged that the state administration tried to obstruct the campaign and detained several senior party leaders before the event. “Our workers remained peaceful and avoided any confrontation,” he said.
Calling for unity, Azad said the next eight months would be crucial for the party's political struggle. Targeting BJP, he said, “The Gujarat Model has failed. We will introduce the ‘Nagina model’ when we come to power.” Azad also promised free, quality education from Class 1 to 12 if his party forms the govt.
The yatra will pass through Meerut, Shamli and Saharanpur before expanding to other districts of Uttar Pradesh.
