Man killed in quarry accident in Tenkasi district
Tenkasi: A 23-year-old excavator operator was killed after a large rock fell on it at a stone quarry near Alangulam in Tenkasi district on Monday.
Police said the incident occurred at the stone quarry in Marudhamputhu. The victim, Isakki Raja, a native of Keela Pappakudi, was operating an excavator used for crushing stones, when a large rock suddenly slid down and fell on the machine. The impact reportedly crushed the excavator cabin, leaving the operator trapped inside. Co-workers rushed to his aid, but he died at the spot, police said.
Police retrieved the body and sent it to Tirunelveli Govt Medical College Hospital for autopsy. They registered a case and launched an investigation. Police and concerned officials are examining whether safety norms were adhered to at the quarry and any negligence contributed to the mishap.
