Road rage escalates into life threatening knife assault; FIR lodged after two days
Lucknow: A case of road rage escalating into a life-threatening assault has surfaced from the Sushant Golf City area in daylight, where a public relations firm owner was allegedly chased with a knife following a minor collision. Police registered an FIR two days after pressure from senior govt officials.
According to the written complaint, the incident took place around noon on April 29 near the Omaxe R1 Market gate. The complainant, Rohan, was travelling in his car along with his elder brother, Sameep, after shopping at the market when a speeding motorcycle rammed into their vehicle from behind.
When the duo stopped to assess the damage, the motorcyclist allegedly began arguing and appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.
The situation escalated when Rohan informed him that the matter would be reported to the police. The accused threatened that “police can do nothing” and then pulled out a sharp-edged knife from his motorcycle and chased the complainant with alleged intent to kill.
To protect his brother, Sameep intervened and pushed the attacker during the scuffle, sustaining an internal injury to his left elbow.
Shortly thereafter, the accused allegedly called additional associates to the spot, including one arriving on another motorcycle, raising suspicions of possible gang involvement.
The victim immediately dialled UP-112, following which an emergency response was logged. However, before the police arrived, the accused and his associates fled the scene. The responding PRV team recovered the knife from the spot and took it into custody.
“The entire incident reportedly occurred in front of the Omaxe R1 gate, an area covered by multiple CCTV cameras, with security personnel present as eyewitnesses. We also recorded parts of the incident on his mobile phone,” said Rohan.
Rohan said that it took two days for the police to register an FIR after intervention from top UP govt officials.
