Amid uproar, energy dept swings into action to ensure power relief to people in UP
LUCKNOW: Amid the ongoing severe heatwave in UP, the state govt is working with full seriousness to ensure uninterrupted power supply as per the predetermined schedule, said officials. Acting on the instructions of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, the energy department has intensified monitoring across the state to provide relief to residents during the extreme weather.
Ashish Kumar Goel, additional chief secretary (energy) and chairman of UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), reviewed the statewide power supply situation.
He held detailed discussions with MDs of all discoms as well as executive engineers, seeking updates and issuing necessary instructions.
Chief engineers from Noida, Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur, Mathura, Firozabad, Jhansi, Bareilly, Unnao, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Deoria and Kanpur (KESCO) provided updates on supply conditions in their regions.
Goel emphasised that uninterrupted electricity is crucial during extreme heat. He instructed officials to ensure power supply strictly according to schedule, with rural areas receiving 18 hours and urban areas 24 hours of electricity. He directed special vigilance at substations and sensitive points, along with night patrolling. Areas witnessing sudden load spikes during the night are to be identified and inspected with vigilance teams.
The UPPCL chairman also reviewed issues related to transformer damage, tripping and availability of materials.
He instructed officials to conduct regular inspections of power lines, substations, and transformers, and to ensure quick resolution of complaints received on the 1912 helpline.
Goel directed that more officers be deployed at sensitive substations and that relay settings be corrected with support from test division teams.
He urged officers to remain present in their respective areas, maintain good public contact, and create WhatsApp groups involving public representatives, media persons, consumers, and social workers for timely sharing of power-related updates.
