Cabinet nod to Rs 855cr allocation for amenities at RMLIMS campus
Lucknow: The UP cabinet on Monday approved Rs 855 crore for construction of a 1,010-bed multispeciality emergency centre, a new OPD block and a teaching block at the new campus of Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences in Gomti Nagar Extension.
Announcing the decision, finance minister Suresh Khanna said this will strengthen critical care and expand treatment capacity at one of the state capital’s key tertiary healthcare institutions.
Construction is likely to begin in three months and will be completed in three years, RMLIMS officials said. The basement of the seven-storey building has already been constructed. It will feature 200 high-dependency and intensive care beds, with seven floors housing units for orthopaedics, neurosurgery, neurology, trauma surgery, general medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, pulmonary medicine and critical care. The facility will also include CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound and pathology services, an official said.
A new OPD block will be constructed to manage the growing patient load and provide more streamlined and modern outpatient services.
As part of the expansion, a 200-seat teaching block will be developed to enhance academic infrastructure for medical students. Officials said the facility would offer a technologically upgraded learning environment and contribute to improving the quality of medical education.
The proposed project will have eco-friendly features such as solar water heating and rainwater harvesting.
It will also have a skill innovation and simulation centre and a bone bank. The skill centre will offer advanced training through simulations, while the bone bank will support research and transplantation. Both aim to strengthen the institute’s research and training capabilities.
At the new campus, facilities such as boys’ and girls’ hostels, nurses’ flats, residential complexes, sports infrastructure and a paramedical nursing college have already been developed.
