Multiple voters registered at same address, number such houses: Chockalingam tells BLOs in Solapur
Kolhapur: State electoral officer S Chockalingam has directed district authorities to properly number housing units where multiple voters share the same address, to streamline electoral roll accuracy during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Speaking at a review meeting in Solapur on Saturday, Chockalingam said, “At some places, multiple voters have the same address. The district collector and municipal commissioner should number those residential units through their machinery.”
He instructed booth level officers (BLOs) to carry enumeration forms during field visits and ensure every eligible voter is registered. “If residents provide documents, accept them. The documents are necessary in case of discrepancies, and if the voter is unmarried. Also, get the enumeration form filed by those who have recently completed 18 years age,” he said.
Emphasising on speed and accuracy, Chockalingam asked authorities to monitor the voter mapping process closely. “The exercise is being carried out to ensure eligible voters gets listed, the errors are rectified and ineligible voters are deleted,” he added.
Providing an update on the district’s progress, Solapur collector S Karthikeyan said the district has 39.5 lakh voters. Of these, 32.8 lakh voters (83.2%) have been mapped so far. He added that of the 77,086 voters with blurred photographs in the electoral roll, 72,648 have already been verified.
