HC’s exam relief for 27 law students with ‘carry on’ tag
Kolhapur: The Bombay high court's Kolhapur bench has allowed 27 law degree students with ‘carry on' status from law colleges affiliated to Shivaji University Kolhapur (SUK) to appear for their semester exam starting from Friday. The students had approached the HC after the SUK in March issued a circular stating that students who applied for ‘carry on' provision will not be allowed to sit for the exam owing to the case going on in the principal bench of the high court over the validity of ‘carry on' system. The system refers to enabling students with fail results to carry on to the next academic year. Such students are allowed to continue their next academic sessions by provisional admissions. The bench of Justices Madhav Jamdar and Justice Pravin Patil said, "The interim relief is applicable only to the petitioners in these petitions. Liberty is granted on issue of ‘carry on' on outcome of the matter to be decided by the Principal Seat."Kalyani Mangave, lawyer who represented the students said, "The students are from Kolhapur and Sangli based colleges. They are allowed to appear in the last semester of the academic year in which they had taken provisional admission. Only the students who approached the HC have been granted the relief against the SUK's March 23 circular." The SUK maintained before the bench that they can make exam arrangement for the students who approached the court.
