PHED addressed 20K complaints on the seventh day of special campaign
Jaipur: The Public Health Engineering Dept (PHED) has addressed nearly 20,000 drinking water-related issues across Rajasthan during the seventh round of its special statewide campaign conducted between April 5 and June.
Officials said 19,072 water supply-related works were completed, including repairs to 3,766 hand pumps, fixing 2,236 pipeline leaks, resolving 1,219 pressure-related complaints, restoring water supply in 1,390 affected areas and addressing issues related to low, short-duration and contaminated water supply. Engineers also rectified supply scheduling problems.
Under dept orders, PHED engineers are conducting the campaign every Saturday until June 30.
“On the seventh day, special teams carried out inspections of water sources, pipeline networks and supply systems across districts and rural areas, ensuring on-the-spot resolution of problems,” a dept release stated.
During the latest drive, 689 defunct hand pumps were made operational, 592 pipeline leaks were repaired, 241 pressure-related issues were resolved and water supply was restored in 246 areas.
PHED also intensified action against unauthorised use of drinking water. During the seventh drive, 426 illegal water connections were disconnected, including those used by hotels, dhabas, Saras Dairy booths and agricultural operations.
Officials said a total of 1,827 illegal water connections have been removed during the seven drives conducted so far .“This has helped curb water wastage and ensured better utilisation of drinking water resources for the public,” an official said.
