Guidelines issued for 4-month online foreign language courses
Jaipur: The Commissionerate of College Education has issued detailed guidelines for five foreign language certificate courses that will be launched from the next academic session, opening opportunities for students and young residents across Rajasthan to gain internationally recognised language skills.
The four-month courses will be conducted online in French, German, Japanese, Korean and Spanish. Teaching will be provided by experts from the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad.
Officials said the programme aims to provide participants with a beginner-level foundation aligned with globally accepted language proficiency standards while improving employability in sectors where foreign language skills are valued, including tourism, trade, services and higher education.
Students currently enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes will be eligible to apply. Graduates and postgraduates who have already completed their degrees can also enrol, subject to merit criteria. In addition, Rajasthan residents aged between 18 and 35 years who have passed Class 12 through regular mode will be eligible if seats remain available after accommodating enrolled students.
According to the guidelines, applicants will indicate their preferred languages, and allotment will be made based on eligibility and preference order. If applications exceed available seats, admissions will follow a priority system.
Final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students of participating government colleges and state-funded universities will receive first preference. They will be followed by other regular students from government and private colleges, graduates who have completed UG or PG programmes, and then other eligible applicants from the state.
Admissions will be based primarily on merit determined through Class 12 marks. Date of birth will be considered only as a tie-breaker where candidates secure identical marks.
To ensure smooth conduct of classes, EFLU, which will function as the teaching hub, and participating higher educational institutions serving as student centres will be required to establish adequate digital infrastructure.
Officials said the initiative is intended to enhance students’ global exposure and equip them with additional skills sought by employers in an increasingly interconnected economy.
