Rajasthan man kills estranged wife, body dumped near railway underpass

JAIPUR: Police Tuesday arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his estranged wife and dumping her body near a railway underpass close to Tantiyawas toll plaza in Chomu, a day after the crime came to light.

The accused, identified as Satish Kumar Sharma, was held following investigation into the death of Meenu Sharma, 42, whose body was found near an underpass in the Anandlok area Monday morning. Police said the murder stemmed from a long-standing domestic dispute between the couple.

According to DCP (West) Prashant Kiran, Meenu had been living with her parents for the past seven years after separating from her husband.

“The accused allegedly lured her out on the pretext of a conversation before killing her and later returned home as if nothing had happened,” he said.

The case surfaced on April 20 when the police control room alerted local teams about an unidentified woman’s body lying near the underpass.

A police team rushed to the spot and found the body of a woman, around 40 years old, dressed in a suit, with a cloth tightly tied around her face, raising suspicion of foul play.

A breakthrough came when the woman’s brother, Vishnu Kant Sharma, a resident of Dhoblai under Govindgarh police station, identified the body as Meenu. He told police she had left home around 4:30pm Sunday to buy clothes but did not return.

Subsequent probe pointed to the husband, who was taken into custody. During interrogation, police said, the sequence of events—from luring the victim to confrontation and murder—began to emerge.

Sources said the accused dumped the body near the underpass to mislead investigators before returning home. Police said further investigation is underway.
