Power substation to transmit 14,000 MW of green energy coming up in Mandsaur

Indore: In a massive boost to country’s green energy infrastructure, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited— Asia’s largest power transmission utility—is constructing India’s largest electricity substation near Ranayra village on Sanjeet Road in Mandsaur.

“This megaproject is engineered to handle seamless transmission of a staggering 14,000 MW of renewable power, positioning Madhya Pradesh as a central hub on the country’s clean energy map,” a senior corporation official told TOI.

The official said that the Mandsaur substation was being designed as a mega-pooling point to collect incoming wind, solar, and hybrid power from several major renewable energy pockets across Western and Central India.

To smoothly distribute this massive pool of clean energy without grid fluctuations, the corporation is deploying cutting-edge technology and high-quality infrastructure. The pooled 14,000 MW of eco-friendly electricity will be evacuated and transmitted directly to high-demand load centres via advanced 765 KV double circuit lines.

The primary beneficiary hubs receiving this power will be Indore, Kurawar and Khandwa.

By integrating this substation directly into Madhya Pradesh electricity grid, the project ensures a reliable, continuous, and eco-friendly power supply across the state and neighbouring regions.

Mandsaur collector Aditi Garg, who recently visited the facility, said that beyond boosting administrative and industrial power efficiency, the project marks a historic milestone in India’s journey toward carbon neutrality and energy self-reliance.

“Once fully operational, the Mandsaur facility which will be largest in the country, will drastically lower carbon emissions by replacing fossil-fuel dependency with reliable green energy, benefiting millions of consumers across the country” she said.

The initial phase of the substation is expected to be operational by Dec 2026 while it will be fully operational by April, next year.
