RPF seizes Rs 1cr unaccounted cash on train, busts inter-state drug network in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Central Railway has seized ₹1.22 crore in unaccounted cash from a passenger travelling on Devagiri Express and also cracked an inter-state narcotics network, recovering marijuana worth ₹41.5 lakh in separate operations.

The cash seizure was made under Operation Satark, after personnel from the crime prevention and detection squad (CPDS) noticed suspicious behaviour and unusual body language of a passenger during routine checks aboard the train.

On inspection, officials recovered two bags containing ₹1.22 crore. Preliminary investigation indicated that the money was allegedly being transported from Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar to Secunderabad.

The passenger and the seized cash were handed over to the Government Railway Police for further investigation. The matter has also been referred to the income tax department and the Intelligence Bureau. Officials said verification is underway through the interoperable criminal justice system and digital analysis by the RPF cyber cell.

In another operation under Operation Narcos, the RPF busted an inter-state narcotics chain with links to Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana.

The breakthrough came aboard Nagavali Express when the CPDS team observed suspicious movements and nervous behaviour of a passenger during surveillance checks.
