Webinar series boosts student personality development: Dharwad DC
Dharwad: Emphasising the importance of holistic education and personality development among students, Dharwad deputy commissioner Snehal R said the Wednesday Webinar series organised by Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement has been playing a constructive role in empowering students across the state.
She spoke after inaugurating the release of Hanate, a booklet compiling the proceedings and key learnings from the 2025-26 ‘Wednesday Webinar’ series, at Suvarna Samskrutika Samucchaya in Dharwad on Saturday.
Addressing students, teachers and parents, Snehal said the organisation’s activities are not confined to Dharwad but have expanded across Karnataka. She noted that the 36 webinars conducted during the academic year helped students gain knowledge in diverse subjects and improve personality and confidence.
She advised students to set clear goals and pursue them with determination. Recalling her journey to becoming an IAS officer, she said consistent efforts and perseverance are key to success. “One should never fear failure. If efforts continue with commitment, success will certainly follow,” she said.
The DC also urged parents and School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) members to focus on children’s safety and well-being. She appealed to parents not to let financial or personal hardships hinder their children’s education and stressed the need for proper guidance and a healthy home environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Umesh Bommakkanavar, deputy director (in-charge), department of public instruction, Dharwad, appreciated the consistency of the webinars. He said the initiative contributes significantly to students’ overall development by covering subjects like education, health, environment, science, technology, medicine and yoga.
He also lauded the publication of webinar lectures in book form and said the organisation has been rendering selfless service, especially in providing quality education to underprivileged children.
SVYM North Karnataka regional head Jayanth K S delivered the introductory remarks. Life skills facilitator Shrikant Hanji said that with support from the education department, the initiative has completed five years, during which 162 webinars were held with participation from 120 resource persons.
Resource person Manjunath Hiremath and students Aishwarya and Chaitra also shared their experiences of the webinar programme.
