Panaji: A day after TOI reported three marine animals washing ashore at different beaches, two Humpback dolphin calves were discovered along the state’s coast on Tuesday.
The first was a calf found at Cavelossim beach. “It was notably young, with fetal folds still faintly visible on its body—these folds typically diminish as dolphins mature,” a source said. The second calf was reported at Anjuna beach, described as “very tiny”. Authorities are conducting post-mortem examinations on both dolphins to ascertain the causes of death.
These incidents involving marine life have raised concerns about the health of marine ecosystems in coastal areas, requiring urgent look into continued monitoring and conservation efforts. “Locals and visitors are urged to report any similar occurrences to the relevant authorities to aid the ongoing investigation and to support marine conservation,” a source said.
