Temperature to touch 44 by Tuesday

New Delhi: City witnessed another sweltering day on Sunday, with a slight rise in the maximum temperature and high humidity pushing the “feels-like” temperature significantly higher than the actual reading.

Around noon, while the mercury stood at 39°C, the heat index touched nearly 45°C, making outdoor conditions particularly uncomfortable.

Relief is expected towards the weekend, however, prior to that Delhi will have to battle extreme heat. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature is expected to remain between 42°C and 44°C on Tuesday and Wednesday. No heatwave warning has been issued yet. Relief, however, may be on the horizon, with rain forecast towards the end of the week, and the wet spell is expected to bring daytime temperatures to around 35°C-37°C by June 12 and 13, offering respite from the prevailing heat and humidity.

On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.6 degree Celsius, two notches above normal, against 40 degree Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.7 degree Celsius, season’s normal against 26.4 degree Celsius a day earlier.

“A fresh western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 11th June. Rise in maximum temperatures by about 2°C during next 2 days, no large change during subsequent 2 days and fall by 4-6°C thereafter. Rise in minimum temperatures by 1-2°C till 10th June 2026, no large change during subsequent 24 hours and fall by 2-3°C thereafter,” stated IMD.

The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 41-43 degree Celsius on Monday.

The air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 500, remained moderate at 144 agaisnt 176 a day earler, on a scale of 0 to 500.
