DEHRADUN: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and chief minister Harish Rawat have been booked by

Haridwar district

administration for violating the

model code of conduct

on Tuesday, two days after the leaders conducted a

roadshow in Haridwar

.

A case has been registered against Rahul Gandhi, Rawat and party candidate from Haridwar (city) Braham Swaroop Brahmachari for holding the roadshow beyond the permitted time on Sunday.

A case has been registered under section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 123 of Representation of the People Act, on the report of returning officer Jai Bharat Singh.

Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Krishna Kumar V K said, “A case has been filed in Kotwali police station mainly on two grounds - for holding the roadshow beyond the prescribed campaigning time and use of loudspeakers after 10:00pm.”

After the roadshow finished at 11pm in the night,

along with chief minister also participated in Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri.
