Truck ploughs into crowd at junction at Chengalpet; one killed, two injured
Chennai: A truck driver lost control of the vehicle and ploughed into people waiting at a traffic signal, killing one person and injuring two others near Maraimalai Nagar on Wednesday.
The iron centering plates fell on the people in the impact. Vaithiyalingam, 52, a resident of Thirukazhukundram, was crushed under the plates and died on the spot. Two others suffered serious injuries and were rescued by bystanders.
Tambaram traffic investigation wing police recovered the body and sent it to Chengalpet Govt Hospital for postmortem. The truck driver, Sakthivel, has been arrested.
