Newlyweds cast votes immediately after wedding in Gudiyatham

VELLORE: Two newly married couples in Gudiyatham prioritised their "democratic duty" over wedding celebrations, heading straight from the marriage halls in their wedding attire to polling booths to cast their votes on Thursday. The other voters gathered in the booths appreciated their dedication to exercise their duty and wished them ‘a happy married life.’

S Subash, a BBA graduate employed in a private firm in Gudiyatham town, and M Kanimozhi, also a BBA graduate and from the town, tied the knot on Thursday morning. Rather than heading home for post-wedding rituals, the couple split to their respective polling stations to ensure their voices were heard. The groom cast his vote at the municipal primary school in the Kaspa Gautama Pettai area, while the bride exercised her franchise at the Thiruvalluvar higher secondary school.

In another instance of dual dedication, M Vinoth, a PG assistant in chemistry, govt boys’ higher secondary, Odugathur, married T Janani on Thursday morning. Reflecting their background in education and social responsibility, the couple visited their polling centres shortly after the ceremony. Vinoth voted at the Gangadharaswami municipal middle school while Janani cast her ballot at the Thiruvalluvar higher secondary school.




The sight of the couples arriving in their traditional wedding attire -- the grooms in silk veshtis and the brides in ornate silk sarees-- became a highlight of the day at the polling stations. Other voters waiting in line cheered the two couples for setting a strong example. Election officers and security personnel on duty paused to offer their congratulations and praise for their commitment. Local political party representatives also extended their best wishes to the couples.
