DMK says Congress betrayed them; Congress retaliates
Chennai: DMK youth wing upped its offence against Congress for severing ties after election, calling it a betrayal. This is the second attack from DMK after its first attack in the DMK district secretaries meeting held recently. However, TNCC retaliated by condemning the usage of words such as “betrayal” and “backstabbing”.
The DMK youth wing held its first meeting after the recent poll defeat in DMK headquarters in Chennai, in which former chief minister M K Stalin and deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin participated. In the meeting, a resolution was passed saying that Congress“betrayed” DMK.
“Congress won several MLAs and MPs over the years only because of the efforts of the DMK cadre. Even in the recently concluded assembly election, Congress managed to win five assembly seats due to the work carried out by DMK functionaries. Congress, despite being a national party, secured a Rajya Sabha seat before the election with the support of DMK MLAs, but shifted camps overnight without even expressing gratitude,” the resolution stated.
Accusing Congress leaders of being driven by “desire for posts”, the resolution said the party failed to follow even the “basic political civility” expected of a historic movement. It alleged that Congress had a history of “living off the labour of others” and “betraying allies for convenience”.
The youth wing further claimed Congress ministers in the present govt were elected because of votes cast by people who wanted the DMK to form the govt, and not due to the party’s “independent influence”. It also alleged that Congress leaders were falsely claiming to have created history despite lacking the strength to secure victory on their own.
To rub salt on the wound, youth wing functionaries raised slogans against Congress and party’s leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in the meeting.
Meanwhile, TNCC issued a statement on X condemning DMK. “Difference of opinion are natural in democratic politics, but expressing them through unnecessary words and accusations is not benefiting political decency. TNCC completely rejects accusations of treason and backstabbing levelled against us,” TNCC said.
Congress legislative party leader S Rajesh Kumar retaliated, saying that DMK is spreading a narrative that all the allies won only
because of DMK votes, which is not right, and asked them to stop the narrative.
“Since 1967, both DMK and AIADMK did not win any election without an alliance. So, they should stop spreading lies about alliance partners,” Rajesh Kumar said.
