Chennai suburban train timings revised ‘to improve operational efficiency’; Southern Railway advises passengers to take note of changes
CHENNAI: Southern Railway has revised timings of suburban EMU train services in the Chennai Beach–Tambaram–Chengalpet section from June 1 to improve operational efficiency and services. A release said the revised weekday timetable, which will come into effect from Monday, showed departing 5 to 20minutes earlier or later than current schedules. A separate Sunday timetable will be implemented from June 7.
The revised schedule covers Chennai Beach–Chengalpet suburban services and connected sections towards Tirumalpur, Kancheepuram and Arakkonam. Annexures released by the Chennai division show revised weekday and Sunday schedules for trains operating across the suburban corridor.
Several services have been rescheduled. For instance, a Chennai Beach–Chengalpet service departing at 5.30am under the current schedule has been revised to 5.40am, while a 6am departure has been shifted to 6.20am. A service leaving Chennai Beach at 8.30am has been revised to 8.50am under the new timetable. Return services from Chengalpet and Arakkonam-linked suburban corridors have also been adjusted under the revised schedule.
Railways advised passengers to take note of the revised timings and plan journeys accordingly. Chennai division said the changes were introduced to further enhance operational efficiency and improve commuter suburban services in one of the city’s busiest rail corridors.
