Wanted gang associate held after brief exchange of fire in Yamunanagar
Yamunanagar: The district police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a wanted criminal with alleged links to the notorious Noni Rana and Monu Gurjar gangs, following a dramatic late Monday-night encounter.The accused, identified as Arun alias Golu, a resident of Jagadhri, allegedly opened fire at a CIA-II police team while attempting to escape arrest. During the incident, a bullet hit sub-inspector Rohan, but he escaped unhurt due to the protective gear.
According to the police, the CIA-II team received specific information Monday evening that Arun, an associate of Surya Pratap alias Noni Rana and Anil Kumar alias Monu Gurjar, was present near a railway underpass on the road leading to Sialba village in the Saraswati Nagar area. Acting swiftly, the team laid a trap to apprehend him.As the police moved in, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds at the team and tried to escape. During the chase, Arun attempted to break through a wall near the railway underpass but lost his balance and fell, sustaining injuries to both legs and other parts of his body. He was overpowered by the police and rushed to Mukund Lal District Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, for treatment.On the complaint of SI Rohan, a case was registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Arms Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chhappar police station, said the police.Rakesh Kumar, in charge, CIA-II, said Arun was recently released on bail in another criminal case and was wanted in an Arms Act case registered on Jan 21. He added that the police received inputs suggesting the accused was planning to commit a crime in the area.Police officials confirmed that at least two criminal cases were already registered against Arun, and further investigation was underway.MSID:: 127887059 413 |
